Bleh. You know that snow we sent to Wyoming on Sunday? Turns out they didn't want it either, and sent it back Monday. Winter is here to stay. It's about -15C tonight, the wind's blowing, it's trying to snow, and the forecast is for much the same for the next four months. For all you Merry-Ho-Ho gee-I-wish-we-could-have-a-white-Christmas folk out there, I'll make you a deal: Let's trade for two weeks. You can come here and play in my back yard, and I'll go play (suntan) in yours. Dashing through the snow my ass... I've yet to see anyone around here whistling while they shovel their walk in -30 temperatures with the wind blowing. There. That feels better.
A couple busy days at the office. I cleaned up several lingering projects yesterday, and Troy and I spent most of today creating a game plan for 2002. Our contract with IBM will definately be renewed, along with the potential for several "value-added" projects that we're creating proposals for this week. Lots of hard work ahead, but it's rewarding nonetheless.
No, I didn't get bit by the 2.4.15 kernel bug -- there again, I didn't spend much time working under 2.4.15. I downloaded 2.4.16 yesterday, but I've yet to recompile the kernel. Maybe tomorrow, in a quiet moment. In the meantime, Opera has announced a "technology preview" of their 6.0 browser for Linux. I downloaded the dynamic version (requires QT 2.2.4, which I have), but like the 2.4.16 kernel, I won't get to it for a day or three. If someone takes the plunge before I do, drop me a line and tell me how you made out.
A question for the wireless gurus amongst us -- what would cause a card/WAP combo to lose signal strength? I used to be able to work on the back porch with my notebook; now, I can't even work at the kitchen table without losing connectivity. Sitting in the living room, everything's fine. Strange. Any and all tutoring welcome.
